Machine of Death (2018)
for solo speaking pianist
ca. 12 minutes
Based on a writing prompt of what would happen if people knew how (and only how) they were going to die, Machine of Death is a piece of music theatre that allows the pianist to test out the Death Piano 3000 - complete with instructions and test samples. The pianist is encouraged to run their own sample through the machine, just be careful of what you wish for!
The idea for the Machine of Death first appeared in Ryan North’s “Dinosaur Comics” in 2005, and later in “Machine of Death: A Collection of Stories About People Who Know How They Will Die” edited by Ryan North, Matthew Bennardo, & David Malki in 2010.
